CHALK's Core Values
Employee of the Month

Thanks to our youth staff for the input and creation of CHALK's core values!

Core values are guiding beliefs that we, in CHALK, put into practice every day, and our values represent everything we do. We keep it real in all that we do!

- We utilize our life experiences to positively affect the community.

- We are dedicated; we understand that working for the community is a lifestyle, not a job.

- We ensure youth voice, youth influence and youth leadership is integrated in all of the work we do.

Please join in congratulating our newest employee of the month from Youth Funding Youth Ideas.

Kandy is CHALK’s employee of the month for February! Kandy has been through a lot in her life and even more in recent months. Despite her circumstances, Kandy does like Tupac once said and keeps her head up. She is a firm believer, advocate and practitioner of positive street rep. As a youth evaluator and grant-maker she is stellar.

Her evaluation skills are refined and as a grant-maker, her decisions are sound and compassionate. She is always thinking of others and helping those around her. Recently Kandy has proven that she has the skills of a great public speaker who can move a crowd. It is time this young woman is recognized for her wonderful work.

YFYI March funded projects

Kabataan

This project focuses are on Filipino and Filipino American culture. The aim of this program is to educate immigrant and non-immigrant Filipino youth about their common ancestries in order to build a relationship and connection to each other. The major focus is to serve the youth in the district outside the Filipino culture because there are many youth that are unable to go to an after school program because of capacity.  The youth of this program will produce one activity with emphasis on building awareness of Filipino roots and culture each month for 6 months.  Upcoming events include, mural painting, poetry slams and a college resource center.   The group will be open to anyone interested.  If you would like to contact Kabataan, please contact Jun Cruz at (650) 580-7382.

Real Young Men

Real Young Men is in its 3rd year of operation and has proven to be one of YFYI’s most successful funded projects.  The adult ally who was last year’s main youth leader was a one point a participant and has grown with the project.  The project is a skills based education young men’s group that provides support and resources through weekly workshops created by youth for youth.    The group is recruiting a youth facilitator to lead the project.  A job description for interested youth is linked below.  The opportunity has potential for continuous employment with Huckleberry Youth Programs.  This is an amazing opportunity for young men interested in helping other young men build self esteem and community involvement.

Real Young Men

In the Spotlight

Check out our Youth Funding Youth Ideas funded project, Benefit For Child Abuse Prevention (BCAP). This is a great benefit concert with jazz musicians and special guests. The proceeds of this money will go to the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention to benefit child abuse victims and to spread awareness about the issue. Come join me along with some of the Bay Area's greatest musicians including special guests David Grisman, John Handy, George Marsh, members of the SFJAZZ All-Star Big Band, and more TBA.

Benefit for Child Abuse Prevention (BCAP)

My name is Sam Reider and I am a senior at the Urban High School of San Francisco. As part of our senior curriculum, we spend considerable hours working at local non-profits and community-based organizations around the city. For my particular project, I decided to organize a benefit concert for the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. I wrote a grant proposal to Youth Funding Youth Ideas, organization that gives money to youth-led projects and received enough money to book the Great American Music Hall and make my dream come true.
