Word from YDPN

Calling all youth workers!!!!

You've probably heard about the feasibility study the YDPN is undergoing this year to help us determine our future directions.   We've conducted a series of focus groups that provided great insight into the needs and interests of youth workers in the Bay Area.  Based on the conversations in the focus groups, we've created an online survey to learn more about the needs of youth workers and to hear your ideas on how the YDPN can better support you!

Here's where you come in.  Please take a few moments to complete the YDPN's online survey and encourage your friends, coworkers and staff to complete it as well.  We're trying to get as big a response as possible from youth workers all over the Bay Area.

Visit http://ydpn.bay.area.googlepages.com for a link to the survey
The survey will only be up for the next two weeks – don't wait to complete it!

And, just for completing the survey, you'll be entered in a raffle to win one of five $30 Safeway gift cards!

Your voice will directly impact our network for there is Power through a Network of Peers!

Peace,
Your friendly neighborhood YDPN!

TAG : Teens Against Guns
Out of TURF

This project will conduct three 6 session workshops on teen violence every month.  The workshops will focus on the death rate in the community, what causes violence in the community and how we can stop it.  Their will be open discussions on the topics.  At the end of each workshop the participants will receive a $15 gift card for participating.  The youth of this project were so motivated by having successfully run a previous YFYI funded project, that this will be their second time running an awareness project like this.

Mission Recycling Committee

Founded in January of 2007, the Mission Recycling Committee (MRC) serves the 800+ students of Mission High School in San Francisco.  Ten dedicated student leaders founded this committee and ever since, committee members have worked to place recycling bins in every classroom and hallway.  Collecting recyclables weekly, MRC takes the money redeemed by bottles on supplies, funding for school field trips, and much more.

Mission
Our mission is to implement a sustainable youth-led recycling system in Mission High School, encourage students to recycle at home, and actively volunteer in the community to help the enviornment.

Philosophy
The Mission Recycling Committee believes that students do not recycle as much as possible due to the lack of containers around school.  Our committed members think of creative ways to make recycling as easy as possible for students at school.

Each classroom now has a recycling bin and the next step is to educate and involve the students so that recycling becomes a habit.  We believe that each student should also volunteer in the community with local enviornmental organizations to continue helping the environment.
